Apu is a dad...again.
Well, not really. He’s actually becoming a first-time father:
Hank Azaria and his girlfriend Katie Wright are expecting their first child…a boy…
Hank and Katie - a former actress who is now studying to be a family therapist - have been dating for two years.
The happy couple are currently house hunting to find the perfect family home.
Hank is best known as the voice of three major ‘The Simpsons’ characters, Abu, Moe and Chief Wiggum. (linkage)
Abu? Who is this Abu? Wasn’t that the monkey from Aladdin??
“The exploitation of sex slaves for commercial sex generated profits of $35.7 billion in 2007,” says Siddharth Kara. “This makes slavery second only to drug trafficking in terms of global illicit enterprises.”
More Brownz in Obama-land
Just received a press release regarding today’s appointees: “President Obama Announces Key Additions to the Office of the White House Counsel”.
It includes one Shomik Dutta.
Shomik Dutta is the Special Assistant to the President’s Counsel, Greg Craig. Mr. Dutta most recently worked as a member of the Presidential Transition Team and had earlier served as Mid-Atlantic Finance Director to the Obama for America campaign for two years. Prior to that, Mr. Dutta worked for Martin O’Malley’s successful gubernatorial campaign in Maryland. Mr. Dutta received his bachelor’s degree from Williams College.
Congrats! You’re the man now, dog.

My Holiday with McCain
Via the SM Tip Line, a desi Clinical Psychologist has some not so nice things to say about John McCain.
It was just before John McCain’s last run at the presidential nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including Bridget (their adopted Bangladeshi child). It was not our intention, but it was our misfortune to be in close quarters with John McCain for almost a week since Turtle Island has a small number of bungalows and their focus on communal meals force all vacationers who are there at the same time to get to know each other intimately.
I was innocently looking up what the weather was like, when I did a double-take at the ads Yahoo! decided to serve my way. Funny name obviously means higher probability of self-hatred, right? Wrong. On many levels.
Bridget McCain is on the cover of People mag— with her family, of course. While she wasn’t interviewed personally, I thought the article was interesting. Def worth a read while standing in line at the grocery store. :)
Oddly, I'll bet we'll never see a bollywood remake of this film ...
Crew on an Air India passenger jet discovered a snake coiled up under a seat and were unable to catch it as it slithered around the plane, the airline said on Thursday. It evaded capture by slipping into an air vent and could not be found even when staff unscrewed panels inside the fuselage, opened all the doors and fumigated the plane. [Link]
