Check out how much money Obama raked in at the event where he proclaimed “I am desi.”
Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic party’s Presidential hopeful, on Aug.17 spoke candidly to a small crowd of South Asian supporters at a fundraiser held at the Fairmont Hotel’s Crystal Room, here. “It’s going to be difficult,” said Obama.
“Change is always tough. And electing me is change. It means that people are going to hesitate a little bit. Ba-rack O-bama. They’re still getting past that name. But it’s a testament to the American spirit that I’m even standing before you as the Democratic nominee.”
The event bolstered Obama’s campaign chest by $530,000. Co-sponsored by the Asian-American Finance Committee and the DNC Indo-American and South Asian American Leadership Councils, it began with opening remarks from Kamala Harris, the District Attorney of San Francisco, and Rep.
