One of the participants in today’s Democratic Convention interfaith gathering was Kathryn Ida, a Buddhist student from the University of Colorado. She read a passage from the Metta Sutra emphasizing the core tenets of Buddhism. I had the chance to ask her a few questions afterwards – she mentioned that her aunt was very involved in the Democratic Convention and thus asked her if she would like to read a Buddhist passage for the ceremony. She said it was a “great honor” to be on stage with the many leaders of the different faiths and also said she was proud to be representing her faith on such a stage. It was quite thoughtful of the Democrats to represent the Buddhist constituency even though it is relatively small in the United States. Surprisingly, Hindus weren’t represented…
